IH 30 – PGBT Interchange – $350M+ Major Interstate Interchange Design

Dallas, Texas
LTRA led the final highway design for new location multilevel interchange between IH 30 and NTTA’s President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT). LTRA coordinated with both TxDOT and NTTA throughout design to facilitate a collaborative project development process for the interchange between TxDOT and NTTA roadway facilities. The multilevel freeway interchange included four new direct connector bridges as well as twin 1+ mile 4-lane bridges spanning Lake Ray Hubbard. Design of the lake bridges required extensive coordination with Dallas Water Utilities that owns the water rights to Lake Ray Hubbard. LTRA developed special drainage designs for the lake bridges to capture the first flush during rainfall events to restrict pollutants and suspended solids from entering Lake Ray Hubbard. The sequence of construction for the interchange was developed to open direct connectors from IH 30 to PGBT early to maximize toll revenue for NTTA while also maintaining existing traffic on a highly congested section of IH 30. The IH 30 – PGBT interchange connected the entire PGBT Eastern Extension to IH30, significantly improving mobility in the region.
