North Houston Highway Improvement

TxDOT selected LTRA to perform comprehensive Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) services along the high-traffic SH 114 corridor east of DFW Airport. The project supported critical roadway improvements in a dense utility environment where accurate mapping was essential for design and construction. LTRA conducted extensive Quality Level B SUE investigations, vault mapping, and overhead utility mapping across the corridor. One of the project’s primary challenges was coordinating utility data for 13 different communication providers. Our team performed detailed records research, designated toneable utilities in the field, and developed precise CADD files to document over 137,000 linear feet of existing utilities. The result was a complete and verified set of signed and sealed utility plans that provided TxDOT with the clarity needed to advance this complex corridor project.

LTRA mobilizes quickly and works in challenging environments such as schools, hospitals, and active commercial areas where access, safety, and coordination are key. We also assist with utility connections in public rights-of-way, including permitting, concrete coring, lane closures, and inspections. Our responsiveness and precision help contractors minimize disruptions and meet project schedules with greater confidence.

LTRA played a critical role in the $200M+ roadway improvement project at DFW Airport, supporting the construction of new frontage roads connecting the North Express Parking area to Terminal E. As a key member of the project team, LTRA provided expedited Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) investigations and utility coordination to support the fast-paced design-build delivery. Given the complex underground environment of the airport, our team conducted extensive 3D utility scanning, performed additional records research to verify service statuses, and maintained active traffic flow during the investigations. By delivering accurate utility data on an aggressive schedule, LTRA helped keep this vital infrastructure upgrade on track and ultimately improving access to one of the nation’s busiest airports.
