SH 105 – $100M Rural Highway Widening

Hardin County, Texas
LTRA was the lead designer for the $100M+ project to reconstruct and widen 7+ miles of SH 105 between Sour Lake and Pine Island Bayou in Hardin County for the TxDOT Beaumont District. Within the city limits of Sour Lake, a 4/6-lane urban typical section was designed that included raised medians to improve safety, median openings for dedicated left turn lanes, and sidewalks to accommodate both bicyclists and pedestrians. In the rural section of the project, LTRA developed a five-lane typical section with a continuous left turn lane to replace the existing two-lane rural highway. The combined urban and rural designs significantly improved safety along SH105 by providing separate lanes for turning vehicles and through traffic. LTRA developed the ROW mapping documents to support TxDOT’s ROW acquisition process along the corridor. LTRA also lead Utility Coordination efforts on SH 105 that included 20+ major petroleum pipeline crossings. Roadway and ditch designs were revised to eliminate almost all conflicts with petroleum pipeline crossings, significantly reducing cost and schedule impacts for TxDOT.
