IH 35E Mayhill – $130M Major Interstate Reconstruction

Denton County, Texas
LTRA lead the $130M+ major Interstate project on IH 35E at Mayhill that significantly improved the highly urbanized IH 35E corridor in North Texas. The project scope included full reconstruction of several miles of the IH 35E mainlanes and frontage roads through Mayhill, Brinker Rd and Loop 288. The project removed the existing IH 35E bridge over Mayhill that acted as a regional bottleneck by only accommodating one through lane in each direction. The replacement IH 35E bridges expanded Mayhill traffic capacity to three through lanes in each direction, creating a valuable North-South major arterial roadway for Denton County Residents. After a Buc-ees was constructed at Brinker Rd during the design process, LTRA developed multiple alternatives to address the mobility and traffic operations impacts of such a large traffic generator. LTRA eventually selected and designed frontage road bypass bridges to reduce traffic loads at the Brinker Rd frontage road signalized intersections, incorporating traffic operations solutions into the overall IH 35E Mayhill project. LTRA’s design efforts will reduce delays for the travelling public and improve safety along important regional corridors in North Texas.
